Definition/description

Viral RNA can be easily detected within the first 14 days of symptomatic SARS-CoV infection, but convalescent samples (50 days after the onset of symptoms) are consistently PCR negative.

Examples

This is generally accepted to be a good model for SARS because isolation of symptomatic persons prevented onward transmission of SARS, which indicated that the latent period has limited or no infectivity.
